Loudoun Valley Manufacturing Co
Darvel, located in the Irvine Valley, was once a prominent hub for lace production in Scotland, with Darvel Lace gaining international acclaim, particularly in markets like India. In the 1970s, local factories began diversifying into other textile products, but they ultimately struggled to compete with similar goods produced in the Far East and India. Today, only one mill remains operational in the nearby town of Newmilns. The Loudoun Manufacturing Co. occupies a mill that was originally established in 1895, linked to Stevenson Lace. This facility featured a spacious single-story weaving area and initially included a two-story office block at the front. The mill ceased operations around the turn of the millennium, and in recent years, a fire devastated the office space, which has since been demolished, leaving only the weaving sheds standing.
