Big Bill Clocktower

I'm about to get a bit nostalgic, but one of my fondest memories—though it might sound odd—is of the clock tower in Crewe. I vividly recall my parents taking me into town for shopping trips, and that clock always stood tall against the skyline. Constructed as part of the 'Queensway' project in the late 1950s, this hand-laid brick marvel sits proudly above the high street. Initially, it boasted a blue glass face adorned with gold markings, but that changed to white in the 1970s. There's a story that railway workers from the nearby station and Crewe works found it hard to tell the time from the blue face, prompting the council to make the switch. Recently, Cheshire East Council acquired the clock tower and plans to demolish it in the coming years. So, you can imagine my excitement when I got the chance to climb the tower—very few have been allowed, and I couldn't pass it up!
