North Tower
The structure was conceived and constructed by Leach, Rhodes & Walker (currently known as Leach Rhodes Walker) for the Inland Revenue, with its completion occurring in 1966. This was not the only project LRW undertook for the Inland Revenue; they also developed Aldine House in 1967 and Trinity Bridge House in 1998. The tower utilized a then-groundbreaking method involving a continuously climbing shutter to create a central core, with pre-fabricated cladding hoisted into position by a tower crane. This innovative approach facilitated swift construction, eliminated the need for scaffolding, and permitted occupancy of the lower floors while work progressed on the upper levels. While this method proved to be highly cost-effective, it was not without its issues. On a particularly windy night, some windows were dislodged, landing in the adjacent bus station.
