Bus Maintenance Depot

Crewe Bus Station first opened its doors in 1960 as part of the pedestrianisation efforts in Crewe's town centre, prior to which buses operated from the nearby market square. The facility featured a substantial bus maintenance area, which also provided light car maintenance services to the public. However, in 2005, the current operators, Arriva, closed the garage and relocated all operations to Stafford. Recently, Cheshire East Council acquired the site and has plans to transform it into a new shopping centre and leisure facilities. Arriva holds a lease that is set to expire in May, and it is anticipated that the council will choose not to renew it. My visit about two years ago revealed a space cluttered with years of accumulated junk. Notably, in 2013, an incident occurred when a driver failed to engage the handbrake on his bus, causing it to roll back and crash into the garage's wooden doors.
